OWNER’S MANUAL

Zorb-It™ and You!

Congratulations! And thank you for your purchase of Zorb-It, The Essential Accessory™! Zorb-It™ is the future in protecting prized possessions and valuable tools and instruments from the effects of moisture and corrosion. Please take a moment to read this Owner’s Manual for a briefing on how best to use your new Zorb-It™. For more information, please visit our website at www.zorb-it.com. Expert assistance is available at: zorb-it@zorb-it.com. Or call us at 225.644.7947.

Zorb-It™ is unlike the ordinary sugar-packet desiccants you find in leather goods, briefcases, camera and binocular cases, and so on. It is superior. Its granular structure absorbs at least 10 times more moisture from the air inside any enclosure containing your prized possessions and valuables. Additionally, it stabilizes the ambient relative humidity to a near constant level over the long-term. It does not need to be replaced or artificially regenerated.

Zorb-it Ci™ contains an extra granular element that helps prevent corrosion of electronics and electrical contacts, and also the tarnishing of silver. It transfers through its packet membrane a patented micro-thin coating of corrosion inhibiting molecules which attach to metal surfaces. It is never oily or greasy to the touch however. And it aids in electrical conductivity. While Zorb-It™ never needs replacing, Zorb-It Ci™ will need replacement about every 7-10 years, as we’ll explain. Please keep reading!

The Zorb-It™ and Zorb-It Ci™ packets are easy to use. Their granules are contained in a semi-permeable membrane packet material. The packet material allows only water vapor to pass into and out of the packet. Since the granules are very aggressive in their absorption of liquid water and water vapor, the packaging material is designed to protect the granules from contacting liquid water. The handy packets eliminate the need for messy powders or having to dispose of “buckets of liquid” left behind by other types of desiccant products. The double-stick tape on the back of the packets allow for easy installation in many cases and other enclosures.

Facts!

Believe it or not, moist air is lighter than dry air and accumulates in the upper portion of an enclosure. For best results, install Zorb-It is in the upper portion of the enclosure where it is being used. Tossing the packet in the bottom of the enclosure will work, too. But the best results are obtained when it is installed as described here.

Zorb-it™ is the new standard for controlling moisture, high relative humidity, corrosion, and tarnishing associated with your valuable possessions in temporary or longer term storage. It is currently in service protecting sensitive instruments, electronics, and electrical contacts in tough industrial environments around the world. Now it’s available through our website to work just as hard for you!

Putting Zorb-It™ and Zorb-It Ci™ to Work For You!

Zorb-It™

Zorb-It™ is ready-to-go. Just open its packaging (but not the “Z” packet itself) and it is activated immediately. Introduce it into the enclosures or cases containing your prized possessions or valuables. Zorb-It™ packets do not need to be replaced on a regular basis. They are designed to control the relative humidity (RH) in an enclosure without needing replacement for an extended period of time, even when it is used in a high relative humidity environment. Nothing is being “used up” in the Zorb-It™ packet in the process of controlling RH. Here’s an analogy: How many times, and for how long, can a sponge be saturated with water and then rung out? Virtually indefinitely! Same with Zorb-It.™

Under normal conditions, a Zorb-it packet will not swell noticeably, even in a high RH environment. However, if a leak your case or enclosure allows liquid water to enter, this eventually will overwhelm the packet causing it will swell noticeably. A 2x2 packet will grow to look like a golf ball and a 4x4 packet will grow to look like a softball when coming in direct contact with water in its liquid state. A swollen packet indicates that the case or enclosure is leaking or admitting or condensing liquid water. If this happens, and it isn’t condensation, we suggest fixing the leak and replacing the packet.

Zorb-It Ci™

With your Zorb-it Ci™ packet, the same procedures apply as indicated with regular Zorb-It™. However, considerations for the “Ci” element are slightly different. The “Ci” element transfers a patented micro-thin coating of corrosion inhibitor molecules through the packet membrane and onto metal surfaces. You can’t feel it, but it’s there. As the Zorb-It™ granules absorb moisture, they encapsulate the “Ci” granules, thereby extending their life to more than 7 years. After that time, replace your Zorb-It Ci™ with new packets as the “Ci” element will be mostly depleted. Meanwhile, until you do, the Zorb-It™ elements continue to do their job perfectly.

Another Fact: What Is Relative Humidity?

Relative Humidity, or RH, is a term that indicates the ratio of moisture in the air compared to the moisture holding capacity of the air at a given temperature. It is always expressed as a percentage and is also referred to as %RH. Fluctuating RH and ambient water vapor moisture is the promoter of corrosion on metals and undesirable shrink-&-swell cycles in certain wood and paper products. It’s the bad-guy in the black hat your good-guy in the white packet (with the red “Z”!) keeps in constant check!

Installation Considerations

Installation of Zorb-It™ is easy and mostly intuitive. Whenever possible and practical, Zorb-It™ and Zorb-It Ci™ should be installed in the upper one-third of an enclosure, case, or cabinet. Moist air is lighter than dry air and collects in the upper portion of a case or enclosure. During evening hours or a cooling cycle, the enclosure radiates heat from the top of the enclosure. Cooling occurs there first and allows the possibility of condensation. In a large enclosure or cabinet, we recommend placing a few packets around the enclosure strategically, near the top, if possible, rather than having one large packet in one interior location.

Once exposed to ambient air, Zorb-It™ and Zorb-It Ci™ packets will alternate between feeling putty-like or brittle to the touch. The packet will feel soft and pliable (putty-like) when it is exposed to an environment containing a higher-than-average amount of relative humidity. The packet will feel hard (or brittle) when it is exposed to an environment that contains a lower-than-average amount of relative humidity. So, these alternating states are your indication Zorb-It™ is on-the-job for you – constantly and continually!

A Few Very Important Reminders

Never place your Zorb-It™ or Zorb-It Ci™ packets in a microwave or conventional oven, or near an open flame. Your packets do not need regenerative help from you at all! Also, the patented stuff in the packets doesn’t taste good and isn’t good for children. Therefore, never eat nor taste it. Just don’t do it! It isn’t poisonous, per se, but it isn’t good for you either. And, of course, if a packet is damaged, just throw it away and contact us for more. Do not leave the packets around for children to play with; children will think they look like something fun to play with! And, they may be as tempted to taste or eat them as your dog. Again, this isn’t a good idea – not for your dog either!

Specific Installation and Use Considerations

Cameras & Binoculars

Please read “Installation Considerations” above. Simply place a Zorb-It™ packet in each pocket of the camera case or binocular case to be protected. The packet can be placed in the bottom of the case or case pocket and the camera, lens, film, or binoculars can be placed on top of the Zorb-It™ packet. If there is a mesh or screen pocket inside a main pocket, then the packet can be placed inside the screen pocket for convenience. There is a circle of double-sided tape on the back of the packet if you need it. The tape is not designed for use on soft or cloth-type surfaces however. Also, do not stick the tape to the camera, lens, binoculars or other equipment directly.

Musical Instruments

Please read “Installation Considerations” above along with these specific suggestions for your intended use. Simply place a Zorb-It™ packet in the bottom of the main compartment of the instrument to be protected. Place the instrument on top of the packet if necessary. If the case has a hard surface on the inside of the cover (in other words, the interior top is not cloth or felt covered) the double-sided tape on the back of the packet can be used to attach the packet to the inside of the cover. Clean the surface with drugstore rubbing alcohol, or other mild cleaner, and then dry the surface prior to sticking the packet inside your case. Of course, do not stick the tape to the musical instrument itself unless you’re listening for a really different sound! We’re kidding on that last part. Just don’t stick it to your instrument!

Guns & Ammunition

First & foremost, make sure each and every firearm is unloaded, safetied, and the trigger blocked internally and/or externally before moving or handling them. Do that first. Do not leave a firearm where a child can see it or reach it. Never. We want them to grow-up safe, happy, and healthy and become our second generation of happy customers. Then, please read the “Installation Considerations” above along with these specific instructions.

Simply place a Zorb-It Ci™ packet in the case with the firearm or ammunition to be protected. Place the firearm on top of the packet if necessary. The Zorb-It Ci™ packet contains an effective corrosion inhibitor element, the “Ci,” which will help prevent gun metal and brass ammunition from tarnishing.

If the you are planning to use Zorb-It Ci™ in a gun safe, placing the packet in the upper portion of the interior would be ideal. If the case or safe has a hard surface on the inside of the cover (that is, it’s not cloth or felt covered) the double-sided tape on the back of the packet can be used to secure the packet to the inside of the cover. Clean the surface with drugstore rubbing alcohol or a mild cleaner and then attach your Zorb-It Ci™ inside, as described. Do not stick the tape to the firearm itself, of course!

Tool Boxes

Please read “Installation Considerations” above along with these specific instructions for your intended use. Place a Zorb-It Ci™ packet in each compartment of the tool box with your tools. If you have a large standing tool box with multiple drawers, place one 4"x4" Zorb-It Ci(tm) packet in each drawer containing tools. If there is a place for the packet to be attached to a surface inside the compartments, that would be ideal. Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol or a mild cleaner prior to applying the packet with the tape on the back. It will stick better that way!

Storage - Attic & Mini-Warehouse

Please read “Installation Considerations” above along with these specific instructions for your intended use. Simply place a packet in each box containing paper goods, sensitive electronics, collectibles, or any item that may be damaged by moisture and high relative humidity. Use Zorb-It Ci,™ for boxes containing electrical or electronic equipment. Use regular Zorb-It,™ for all other boxes.

Each 4"x4" Zorb-It™ and Zorb-It Ci™ packet protects up to 2 cubic feet of space, or 3,456 cubic inches. Therefore, use one 4"x4" packet for every box whose L x W x H dimensions equal 3,456 cubic inches, or less. For calculating how much you will need please refer to this guide:

CUBIC INCHES* SIZE OF PACKET # OF PACKETS
